The foundation of any high-quality lighting plan is layering. We think of landscape lighting in three distinct layers: ambient light that establishes the overall mood and makes spaces feel safe and navigable, accent light that draws attention to the best features — a specimen tree, a stone wall, a water feature — and task light that serves functional purposes at steps, gates, and outdoor kitchens.
